1. Introduction

TypeHop, Inc. ("TypeHop," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, process, store, and share information when you use the TypeHop application, our website at typehop.app, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Service, including visitors to our website and registered account holders. It covers the processing of personal data by TypeHop and does not address the privacy practices of third-party services integrated with or linked from the Service.

We do not knowingly collect or process personal data from persons under the age of 18. If you are under 18, please do not use the Service or provide us with any personal data. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a person under 18 without parental consent, we will delete it promptly.

3. Data We Collect

Account and Personal Information

When you register or use the Service, we may collect: your email address, name, profile information, and payment details (processed securely by our payment provider).

Voice and Audio Data

TypeHop's core functionality involves processing audio recordings to deliver real-time transcriptions. This audio data is transmitted to our transcription providers for processing and is not permanently stored beyond what is necessary to deliver the Service.

Usage and Technical Data

We automatically collect information about how you use the Service, including: features used, session duration, device type, operating system version, IP address, browser type, crash reports, and diagnostic logs. This data is used for analytics, security, and service improvement.

Transcription Content

TypeHop may store your transcription notes and history to provide cloud sync and search features when you opt into these features. You remain the owner of your transcription content.

4. How We Use Your Data

We process your data for the following purposes:

  • Service delivery: To provide, maintain, and operate the transcription service and all its features.
  • Account management: To manage your account, subscriptions, and billing.
  • Support: To respond to your support requests and resolve issues.
  • Communications: To send you service-related notifications, including updates to these policies.
  • Security and fraud prevention: To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or illegal activity.
  • Analytics and improvement: To understand how the Service is used and to improve its quality and performance.
  • Model training: We may use anonymized, aggregated transcription data to improve our AI transcription models. You may opt out of this use at any time.
  • Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.

The legal basis for processing is primarily the performance of our contract with you. Where we rely on consent (e.g., marketing emails or model training), you may withdraw consent at any time.

5. Voice and Audio Data

Audio recorded through the TypeHop app is sent in real time to speech-to-text processing services to generate transcriptions. Audio streams are transmitted over encrypted connections. We do not retain raw audio recordings after transcription is complete, unless you explicitly enable a feature that stores audio.

You are solely responsible for obtaining any necessary consents from individuals whose voices may be captured through your use of the Service. TypeHop does not record conversations without the knowledge of the person operating the app.

Anonymized transcription data may be used in aggregated form to improve TypeHop's transcription models. Personally identifiable information is stripped before any such use. You may opt out by contacting us.

6. Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information with trusted third parties only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: We work with carefully selected subcontractors (e.g., cloud infrastructure, payment processors, transcription APIs, analytics) to operate the Service. These parties are contractually required to protect your data and may only process it on our instructions.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your data if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or ensure safety.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity. We will notify you of such a transaction and explain your options.

7. International Transfers

TypeHop is based in the United States. If you are accessing the Service from the European Union, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, please be aware that your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

We take appropriate measures to ensure that such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws, including use of standard contractual clauses where required. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the United States.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security assessments.

No security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data. In the event of a data breach that is likely to adversely affect your privacy, we will notify you as soon as reasonably practicable as required by applicable law.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access: Request confirmation of whether we process your data and obtain a copy of it.
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal obligations.
  • Right to restriction: Request that we limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
  • Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@typehop.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding to your request. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (typically 30 days).

If you believe our processing of your data violates applicable law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that their child has provided us with personal data without consent, they should contact us at hello@typehop.app and we will promptly delete such data.

11. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active, or as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by sending you an email or displaying a notice in the Service. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
